Andrew Spurgeon
Incumbent Bencher
Andrew Spurgeon is Counsel at Ross & McBride LLP in Hamilton, where he is a mediator and adjudicator. He is particularly knowledgeable in insurance-related litigation, and is an Adjunct Professor of Law at Western University, where he teaches insurance law. He has over 25 years’ experience in third-party personal injury, first-party disability, product liability, professional errors and omissions, and more.
Andrew has appeared before all levels of Ontario courts a well as before the Supreme Court of Canada, and is frequently invited to speak at legal education events about dispute resolution, tort, insurance, civil procedure, and legal ethics. Andrew is currently the Chair of the Board of Directors of LAWPRO, as well as being a past President of the Hamilton Law Association, a former Director of the Advocates’ Society, and the recipient of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association’s Distinguished Service Award.
As a Bencher, Andrew has been Chair of both the Anti-Money Laundering Committee and the Advertising and Fee Arrangements Working Group. He’s also sat on several other committees, including Priorities and Planning; Government Relations; Real Estate; Equity and Indigenous Affairs; and Audit and Finance. In addition, he was a member of the Technology Task Force.
He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at York University, and obtained his LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University.
