Atrisha Lewis
Incumbent Bencher
Atrisha Lewis is a Partner in McCarthy Tétrault’s Litigation Group in Toronto. She is a trial litigator with a practice focused on commercial disputes, professional liability litigation, and product liability matters. Atrisha has appeared before all levels of court. She is the current Vice Chair of the Equity and Indigenous Affairs Committee at the LSO. She is also a member of the advocacy committee for the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers.
Her leadership in the legal profession has been recognized by a long list of awards. In 2021, the received The Globe and Mail’s Changemaker award, and in 2020 was honoured with the Women in Law Leadership’s Stronger Together Award and the University of Toronto’s Wilson Prichard Award for outstanding contribution to the legal profession. She was named a Leading Lawyer in Litigation (Corporate/Commercial) by Lexpert, which also named her a Leading Lawyer under 40 in 2019. Best Lawyers in Canada named her a Leading Lawyer in health care law.
As a Bencher, Atrisha was the Vice Chair of the Equity and Indigenous Affairs Committee; and a member of Professional Development & Competence Committee, the Competence Task Force and the Proceedings Authorization Committee. She is passionate about advancing equity issues and working with our equity partners at the LSO, and about issues facing new calls and licensing candidates. In addition, she has been a vocal and strong supporter of a minimum salary for articling students, the need for licensing candidates to vote during Bencher Elections and be represented at committees that make decisions about entry-level competence.
Atrisha received a Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University with a concentration in Accounting, and obtained her J.D. from the University of Toronto, where she graduated with Honours and received the Dean’s Key upon graduation.
