Mark Surchin

Bencher Candidate

Mark Surchin is a Partner in the business law group at Goodmans LLP in Toronto, where he has an active practice with an emphasis on debt financings. He provides corporate and commercial advice to many companies in the Canadian market, including advising domestic and cross-border borrower and lender clients alike. Mark has extensive experience in high-yield transactions and secondary transactions among private equity funds.


He teaches Business Organizations at the University of Toronto, where he is Vice-President of the Faculty of Law’s Alumni Association. Mark is recognized as a leading lawyer in banking and financial law by Lexpert, the International Financial Law Review (banking and capital markets: debt), and is AV Peer Review Rated by Martindale-Hubbell. He is the co-author of numerous publications. In the community, he volunteers at Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto General Hospital, and Toronto Rehab. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of Brandeis University in Massachusetts and the College of Electors at the University of Toronto.


Mark received a Bachelor of Arts from Brandeis University, and was awarded a J.D. by the University of Toronto.
