Rebecca Durcan

Previous Bencher

Rebecca Durcan is the Co-Managing Partner at Steinecke Maciura LeBlanc in Toronto, where she acts as general counsel, prosecution counsel, and independent legal counsel to several Ontario and national regulators. Her firm and practice are dedicated to professional regulation—essential experience to ensure the Law Society of Ontario regulates its professions in the public interest.

 

Rebecca is an adjunct professor at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law, teaching Professional Responsibility. She co-authored the Annotated Statutory Procedures Act in 2016, and in 2019 co-authored the text Prosecuting and Defending Professional Regulation Cases. And she is the co-author of A Complete Guide to the Regulated Health Professions Act which is regularly cited by the courts in professional regulatory cases.  

 

Rebecca regularly speaks about regulatory issues to a variety of bodies, including the Canadian Network of Agencies for Regulation; the Council on Licensure, Enforcement, and Regulation; the Ontario Bar Association; the Advocates Society; and Continuing Legal Education of British Columbia. From 2018-2019, she also served as an LSO Bencher, and sat on the Ontario Bar Association’s Governance Committee for several years. A proud mother of three boys, she is training to run the Boston Marathon in April.

 

Rebecca has a Bachelor of Arts (History) from Queen’s University and was awarded a LL.B. from the University of Windsor. She also holds a Masters in Health Law from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University.
